save the children

invisible children

how it started:
In the spring of 2003, three young filmmakers traveled to Africa in search of a story. What started out as a filmmaking adventure transformed into much more when these boys from Southern California discovered a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them-a tragedy where children are both the weapons and the victims.

After returning to the States, they created the documentary "Invisible Children: Rough Cut," a film that exposes the tragic realities of nothern Uganda's night commuters and child soldiers. The film originally shown too friends and family, but has now been seen by millions of people. The overwhelming response has been, "How can I help?" To answer this question, the non-profit Invisible Children Inc. was created, giving compasssionate individuals an effective way o respond to the situation.

How you can help:
Have a screening: show the documentary to friends and family, or host a screening on our national tour.
* Buy a bracelet: IC's bracelet campaign is the easiest way to start making a difference. Not only do they provide jobs for people in Uganda but also 0put children through school.
* Join Schools for Schools: Connect your school to a war-affected school in northern Uganda and directly rebuild their education system.
* Get creative: Use your time, talent and money to help support peace in Uganda.

Invisible Children is a social, palithal, and global movement.

moment of thought. *m.o.t.

it's interesting to me how people can say one thing and then do the total opposite. for instance, a girl in my class who is very republican says that she is for gay marriage but doesn't like polygamy. think about that. there can be homosexual relations within polygamy.

update::
- people are pissing me off at school. pretending they care about minorities or whatever you wanna label us but then go and say some racist comments. its ridiculous

11.12.2008

guess who.

love him.
fact of the day:: did you know he was an abolitionist for antislavery??? gotcha. ;)

11.11.2008

posted it on other blog but I felt like doing it here too.

as a preface. i am sry to offend anyone in the upcoming matter but this just has to be said. at this point I really don't care who I offend because people have offended me and didn't care either, so why should I?

I am reading about slavery in my history class and I have learned to tolerate and accept the fact that what is done is done and there is nothing we can do about the past. Now i will say that we can change the future. There was a group of people in the mid-1800s talking about the reasons of why slavery was important and a necessity to the slaveholders. They made pamphlets, wrote essays, promoted the idea of slavery. These ideas were so rediculous I had to stop reading because I couldn't concentrate after a certain point while reading because I was just disappointed with their ideas of how blacks had to fit under this category because being of African descend was a default in your being and your presence. The proslavery propaganda's, as I put it, three arguements of why it should be allowed were these:
1) it is natural and proper status fro people of African descent. Blacks were inferior to whites and their only purpose was for slavery (hard labor).
2) slavery is sanctioned by the Bible and Christianity.
3) slavery is connected to the humanitarian spirit. Blacks are naturally dependent upon other people (whites).

okay. I seriously could not and cannot believe the generalization of these "reasons" of why slavery should be allowed. They acted like they had never seen anyone besides someone of African descent do hard labor and this just tells me that they were to lazy and too "priveleged" in their eyes, to do any work of their own. "slavery is sanctioned by the Bible and Christianity"???? really?? they take things wayyy too literally. I understand that St. Paul said to follow your masters but come on. How about master= GOD! these people used this arguement continuously to make their point. was there anything else within the Bible that could have been used?? obviously not since they kept repeating it over and over. dummies. And last but certainly not least, they said the slavery had to do with the humanitarian spirit. HOW in the HELL is that connected to the spirit of others???? Just so you know, buying someone and making them do hard labor for you without no pay, no justice along with the mistreatment, does NOT classify someone as being a humanitarian. I mean COME ON! Get your head out of your ass, stop thinking about yourself for once and understand that everything is not about you and your money//prosperity.

I truly don't get how people could just go along with this and let this history happen. I know that there were abolitionists but why did it take so long for it to come about. why is it that for a slave to take action, some whites finally realized it was okay to stand up for them. this is why I hate history because people were so ignorant and all about them, their land, and prosperity that they didn't "have the time" to take a look from a different perspective and realize that slaves are people too. People in general are stupid because history is cyclical. It ALWAYS repeats itself no matter the circumstances.

Let it be -

clarity for the skeptics

okay for anyone who is opposed for obama's presidency, I just want to say please don't think that it is African American's "fault" that he has been elected. Let me just say that even if every single African American had voted for Obama and no other race or ethnicity did. Obama would not have been elected. other races voted for Obama as well, so please do not have any inclination that it is the fault of blacks that is he is going to be our new president. accept the change that has been made and is going to come. Even though there are a lot of us (blacks) don't forget we are still a minority. which by the way is increasing along w. different ethnicities such as latinos, asians, etc. so please don't be ignorant and create a bad name for yourself that most of you have already done. I am not generalizing I am just stating that there are people who create a bad name for themselves which portrays them in a certain way. Not saying that everyone is the same, and not saying that blacks haven't made a bad name for themselves in SOME way. I'm just informing that no one should pin point or put the blame on a particular group of people based on the majority of this country's decision.

thank you for hearing me out.
aum & love.
