changes
because of the big interview I had on monday, I was told by a few elders that I needed to look conservative so they suggested, more like demanded, that I straightened my hair. As opposed as I was to it, I did it because I need to just get my foot in the door and at the end of the day I want to be able to look myself in the mirror and ask myself, have I tried every possible option that will get me to the next step in life? And it's just hair...I guess...so I straightened. I like the outcome of it but I'm pretty sure I'll have to keep it up if I get this job, which is very conservative. Hey, anything that will get to the next phase. The one thing I will not succumb to is putting chemicals in my hair, which was the next thing they wanted me to do. I refuse. For me, putting a relaxer in my hair is more mental than physical because I had to make that conscious decision and know the societal impact and statement that I was making by doing that. Also, it's like telling myself that I'm okay with not being the "standard" beauty and that I don't need to be like everyone else.

everything i'm not made me everything i am. -kanye west
this quote is so true & it's currently what I'm listening to.
something great happened on 032311 :) I got into this bootcamp that basically trains you and guarantees a job. out of 130 people, I was chosen. only 19 other lucky people got chosen! Imagine the odds. :)
now, I need to plan when to go back home before work starts because once I start, it's not like I can just take a vacation or take time off within the first 6 months.
today, I also went to the staples center for a job fair to see what was available and I expected more out of it instead of a mere seven tables but that's okay. I made the best of it and gave my resume to a few people. After, I caught an interesting play with the folks entitled, Burn This. It was interesting.
Tata for now :)

experiments
This is the product of the twist out from the previous post. Eh, it came out ok, the curls could've been more defined.
And because I had a dance show to go to, I didn't want to look too wild so I did my staple updo when I want a more refined look. I like it because it's not conventional and still has a little spice to it :)
This day, I had an interview and my curls were looking a little old so I just twisted it all up.
Had my weekly wash with my Trader Joe's all natural, organic conditioner and decided to do a braid out instead to get more curls and I definitely liked the outcome of this one! :) For the edges, I just mixed the Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-In Conditioner with a little bit (I do mean a little bit) of Eco Styler and laid it down with a scarf over night.
This style was just an old braid out, where I separated all of the curls with my fingers (trying to minimize combing my hair dry, as it creates breakage) to give it a fro look. Then I just did a faux hawk to give it some edge.
Clearly, I liked the look and had a little fun haha :)
Slicked the fro back into a bun, using Eco Styler Gel. I must say my hair lays down way better with my natural curls and I'm loving it!
Until next time :)

natural: month 11
I'm going on almost 11 months since I've been transitioning relaxer free and after letting my hair grow while braided up with extensions, I'm finally venturing out into the natural hair care world. I must have seen thousands of videos and read hundreds of posts regarding natural hair, regimes, styles, and products. I'm excited yet scared on what to expect from this outcome but I know it will be well worth it in the end to see how it turns out. Wish me luck!
Currently: just finished my twists in an attempt for a twist-out with Kinky Curly's Leave-In conditioner that I bought today. 1/4 through I realized I have somewhere to go tomorrow but it was too late. I had to keep going. The water had been applied and the curls started to form. Hopefully this turns out well...

I've been sick this past week
but I'm recovering with the help of the tea, remedies, and the rain, making it easier for me to fall asleep in the middle of the day. I'm also reading that book that one of my contact recommended. It's turning out to be really helpful.
